The first ten years of the 2000's provided many storms and extremes
across northeast and north-central Wisconsin. The staff at the
National Weather Service in Green Bay selected the top ten weather
stories of the decade in the NWS Green Bay forecast area.
10. 23 tornadoes in 2005: The 23 twisters were
the most ever reported in a year in northeast and north-central
Wisconsin. The total contributed to 62 in the state, also a record.
9. February 23-25, 2007 winter storm: A two-day
winter storm dumped 16 to 20 inches of snow across parts of
east-central and central Wisconsin. 20.0" was measured near Waupaca.
8. Few severe weather events in 2009: The
thunderstorm season in 2009 produced very few severe weather events in
northeast and north-central Wisconsin, including no tornadoes, the
first time that's happened since 1975.
7. Extended drought across northern Wisconsin in 2008-09:
Several locations reported record deficits of precipitation and rivers
were at or near record low levels in parts of northern Wisconsin.
6. Severe flooding in Oshkosh in June 2008: Days
of rain in the first two weeks of June resulted in severe flooding in
the city of Oshkosh. Several schools, including UW-Oshkosh, sustained
significant damage. Over $20 million in damage was reported.
5. Fox Valley wind and rain storm on June 11, 2001: A large thunderstorm complex roared through the Fox Cities and produced widespread wind damage and heavy rain. Click here for more information.
4. December 8-9, 2009 blizzard: Record snowfalls
and high winds produced blizzard conditions across parts of northeast
and east-central Wisconsin. 14.7 inches fell in Green Bay, making the
storm the biggest in the city's December weather history. Click here for more information.
3. Back-to-back record snowfall seasons: For two
winters in a row--2007-08 and 2008-09--Green Bay measured over 80
inches of snow. Both seasons were top 5 heaviest snowfalls on record.
2. May 12, 2000 hail and wind storm: One of the
most damaging storms in Wisconsin weather history hit central and
east-central Wisconsin with large hail and hurricane-force winds. Over

1. June 7, 2007 tornado outbreak and near record large hailstone:
Several tornadoes, including a 40 mile long track twister, hit central
and northeast Wisconsin during the afternoon and evening of June 7,
2007. One of the thunderstorms produced the second largest hailstone
